How was your Thanksgiving and other Q’s?

28 Nov

Watching the news and all the folks who travelled over this Thanksgiving amazed me. Did you travel? Or did you stay home? Were you concerned travelling with Covid still a thing?

We are dealing with the never ending rain and flooding (not where I live, but close). Rain is pretty much my enemy in the winter and this time it’s really bad, and I need to be outside for my well-being, not cooped up looking out the window. But we’ll get along between football and tunes, both will drown out the rain that is coming down so hard it is overflowing the gutters.

And if that doesn’t work, we can just consume the batch of chocolate chip cookies I made yesterday.

Open thread, introduce yourself, or post what you’re doing, drop a link to what you’re reading, post a picture of your animal friend, or even your Christmas tree – didn’t know people put it up right after TG, if you do, why? We are still trying to decide if we’ll put up a tree, lack of littles and family close by kind of makes it seem a waste, and then, there’s the one-year-old cat to consider, if we don’t, I will still put up some decorations.

Anyway, how are you?

Did we travel? No I haven’t since I was in college since my folks are here, but we did gather with relatives which we didn’t last year. All the 12+ Yo people are fully vaccinated and yesterday my 8 yo got his second dose so he’s fully vaccinated to so while not full proof, I feel much better about things and going out etc. I have a great aunt in her 90s that felt more comfortable wearing a mask even with her booster just done so I felt safe in the fam bam mix.

Once we get a tree up I’m concerned about the 1 yo terror of a pup we have but the kids want a tree. We normally put ours today the Sunday after thanksgiving but cash flow issues since now both hubby and I have our own counseling plus we started couples counseling is quite $$$ plus food and gas are up but by Dec 1 Wednesday we will have one even if small and not 7 feet.
I hate hate hate rain, but we are dry and so we need rain badly down here for winter so I’m praying for rain and cold even if I don’t like it

Congrats on your 8 year old getting vaccinated. In Canada we were told we weren’t fully vaccinated until 2 + weeks post second shot. Is the information given different in the US? (I’m assuming you’re American since you celebrated TG recently. Apologies if you’re not).

While out walking tonight we saw many houses with Xmas trees in their windows as well as lights on the outside of their house. I don’t remember trees being put up so early in the past. It feels so early to me since it’s not even December yet!

We are also dealing with rain and flooding after a summer of many forest fires & a deadly heat dome. It upsets me very much that we haven’t taken better care of the earth and our children will pay for it.

No different info. Yes for flu shot and covid, one doesn’t have full immunities and protection until 2 weeks after but I’m just glad we don’t have to worry about it now 😊

Hey there. We did drive south 30 miles to see my sister in law – in our state. I call it my protest day (of bad history).
    I am blogging here:

This is about triggers and NAAM2021. When I started writing about adoption, I had never heard of being triggered.

Had a great long weekend…not restful, but definitely full! I got Grandma Time, we cooked like maniacs and our recipes were a total success, We had fun together, I got to see my sisters for the 1st time in over a year (stupid COVID), the weather was decent for getting around (yay!) local sports teams all won, got my booster vaccine, only local traveling, but that’s a good thing since most of my main peeps are within 50 miles, my house got cleaned, did a little reading on Alicia Key Lanier’s memoir, MY UNSPEAKABLE LOSS (her experience as a birth mother)..Loaded with Southern charm and imagery from the 40s-60s at this point, which I always appreciate. (Review will happen at some point). We ordered a new (fake, pre-lit) tree so it’s obviously not up yet, but the exterior illumination is a go and my “Rudolph guys” (stuffed Rudolph The Red-Nosed Reindeer figures that resemble Beanie Babies but are knock offs) are poised at the hearth and my granddaughter is delighted to see them!

No Thanksgiving here in Australia. It is now summer although you wouldn’t necessarily know it (although it isn’t too bad today). We hav had rain for the past 2 weeks and are expecting it for another week. At least it isn’t as bad as in Canada (your rain and flooding sounds very similar to what we had in March – our town flooded after 5 days of constant rain, with the 187mm of rain in 24 hrs (9am to 9am 19/20/3) being the straw that broke the camel’s back).

I’m not going anywhere for Christmas and the family aren’t doing anything together anyway. I don’t drive and I don’t feel ready to take the 5hr train trip down south to where my mum and sister live – I think I will go down next year instead.

No decorations for me either. I live by myself so I don’t bother. Maybe I’ll get a $5 mini tree.

Are you going to get that beautiful bushytailed feline of yours a Christmas present?

He gets presents all the time, his toybox is overflowing. A toybox he actively roots around in to find just the right toy.
