One from Shannon (an AP), and my post after reading Shannon’s post (and the comments on those posts as well). As always, I am so thankful for the conversations that have evolved from posts here, you make me think, you also make my life better.

Thanks TAO, that was awesome. I thought she described it very well, and that’s not so easy to do! I’ve been trying to put the same stuff in words since years ago when we first met.
Right on the money, I have experienced it and agree with all she said.

In the sense of identity and genealogy I do feel blood is especially important for everyone. I think the term and the like of ‘family is more than blood’ maybe has been misconstrued, I think it means more along the lines that sometimes one needs and is ok with people that care for your well being and allow you to grow and be yourself without toxic dysfunctional features. Even people that regard others as family even when not related, still like to know where they came from for a myriad of reasons, both negative and positive.

I don’t think anyone should feel threatened by that

It must be really hard, and scary for some, to not feel threatened by that. I’ve run across so many people who are adamant that genetics don’t make family real, or the other end, no matching DNA = not real family. There’s been great pressure for me to pick one or the other. It’s been one of the biggest arguements/discussions I’ve been involved in, either/or vs both/and. The rectangle arguement is more about the Adoptee, or the person stuck in the middle. Which of it’s sides are more important to the rectangle? Not so much, which side of some one elses rectangle is more important to you?

God, that’s as bad as politics! If I could vote for both candidates to win today, I probably would LOL
I guess it’s all good until you’re forced to choose between them, for some reason. I’d love to see them both work together, even if it required a referee, restraints, or no knives or forks at lunch. I am not threatened by that idea!
If somebody told me I couldn’t vote for that one, only this one like it or not, I’d probably sign up for battle, defending both sides, just like I did in Adoption LOL
