Just listened to Lesli Johnson being interviewed by Lori on Adoption: The Long View podcast.
The Adopted Baby As A Blank Slate: Thoughts On The Nature vs Nurture Debate
I listened to the above episode and think it’s worth passing along, I haven’t listened to all Lori’s podcast episodes, but I think it’s one worth subscribing to so you can take advantage of those that interest you. At the end Lori asks Lesli: This is a question that I asked of all of our guests. Can you boil things down to your best piece of advice for adoptive parents about the long view of adoptive parenting? Lesli gave good advice but I’d expand on her adoptive parents doing their own work.
Me: In addition to adoptive parents doing their own work, they need to delve into both current and historical practices and see and understand the harm done, wittingly or unwitting. To acknowledge they play a role in how the public perceives adoption and spouting only how beautiful adoption is as the one who benefits from adoption, does great harm. And if you don’t know what harms I’m speaking of, then you don’t know enough about adoption to be talking about it.

I agree with your thoughts and found Lesli’s interview with Lori to be chock full of important insight. Essential listening for Adoptive families.

Your additional advice is good advice.
Heads up: Episode 12 will be a roundup of all Season 1 guests’ best advice. I hope you find it of value, as well
