Been wondering how everyone has been faring lately in a year filled with pain and suffering for so many both from the pandemic and racial injustices. I find myself asking if all the trauma, pain, losses endured this year by so many – will we have learned anything?
Will we treat each other better?
Will we grow in ways people gave up hope in ever seeing? Will there be a move to work to seriously reduce the income inequality and everything that follows from that? Will all of society ever truly see Black people and people of color as equal to white people? I fear the answer to both is no and the instinctual response to writing that no are the words ‘and Jesus wept’.
I’m deeply worried where all this is heading and for what may be coming in the days and months ahead, both in regards to the pandemic and so much loss, but also the level of animus you can see simmering just under the surface in so many who are against racial equality and justice.
What is so hard about believing Black Lives Matter as a self-evident truth? Why does that frighten so many?
I don’t have any good answers, but I will keep hoping things change and we see a brighter future for all where everyone has an equal chance and start at the same line.
