Not long ago I was told that a flower I grew and loved, was also a flower grown and loved by my grandmother.
A grandmother I never met.
I know that’s a itty-bitty piece of knowledge in the grand scheme of things, but when you don’t know anything about who she was, what she was like, what she did, her hobbies, that little link makes a world of difference.
It truly does.
I know that tidbit matters more to me than it should, but that tiniest thread of connection days later to my maternal grandmother – still makes me smile.
Knowledge is priceless; and even the tiniest sliver of knowledge can create connections.

I am! I didn’t meet my mother but when she died, I read a story about her and found out we did like some of the same things. I think if we had met, we might have not got along concerning matters of race.

I never met my mother either, but based on my aunt, the matters of race wouldn’t be an issue, but who knows, really.

I met an uncle who was her brother and he was openly racist against blacks. I was shocked but not surprised. I was raised by racists.

Absolutely! What type of flower? The rose is sort of a general running theme in my birth mother’s life. (Long story very short:…Her fave flower was a red rose, her last home before she passed was on Rose Ave., Her husband later got on w his life and moved to ROSEburg, OR, My sister’s fave song is “The Rose”….there’s more…)

I love sweet peas too, they don’t complain much and will grow in all sorts of directions.

I went to a bio family 4th of July picnic years ago. I tried some Lima beans from a crock-pot they had. I thought they were delicious. My Aunt told me they were my grandmother’s recipe. I could’ve just broken down crying right there, because, why was this the first (and last) time I ever tasted this? And, who was this woman? What could she have taught me?
I missed the connection. I miss it still.

I’m sorry Michele. I was just a little girl when you were born and am sad I never got to know you too. I’m still here, along with my sisters, if you change your mind and want to get together.
