Yep, it’s that month again…

13 Nov

Dear Friends, how are you doing this month? Were you dreading it as much as I was? I’ve been disconnected in many ways, specifically in not feeling in the mood to venture into the fray this month creates, staying in small trusted circles until now…

But what I really want to ask you first is how you are? Feel free to consider this an open thread in the comments to chat or post a link to a post or article you want to talk about.

My mini-rant: Adoptive parents fearing that being adopted will define their children. Yes, because being adopted and owning all that encompasses is somehow a bad thing, apparently. Terribly confusing seeing how gaga folks go over adoption especially this month. They seem to be lined up a mile long to tell their story. They post the most obnoxious and/or ill-thought-out adoption memes everywhere celebrating adoption for an entire month, some even use those handy picture frames that celebrate or advertise adoption for their profile pics, but damn, adoptees, don’t you dare be defined by an act that literally changed the entire trajectory of your life.

I dread it too, Tao. A friend phoned to tell me an adoptee had killed his a-parents in Illinois a few weeks ago. That story didn’t get much media. Wonder why?

It’s thanksgiving next week. It’s the anniversary of when my daughter turned me into a mother, it’s also my sons birthday next month. Everyone should have their space to be sad, happy or just unclear. I can’t help feeling thankful, grateful, and blessed in that areas. Other than that, life is blah. Husband got laid off so a bit of a downer. Also too many people I know with family or friends that have had their homes lost in Paradise, CA…..lost a church and school there too. It’s very sad.

I felt a sense of dread leading up to the month. I told myself I would do a similar challenge as inktober but instead post daily in November about adoption. I, obviously, am not actually following through but I am writing more consistently. I find myself struggling between sharing what I’m writing these days with close friends and family vs. just continuing to put it out there. In some ways I feel like sharing these thoughts “encourages” other to more closely associate or define me by that experience. At any rate, I’m glad I’m writing again, and I’m beginning to read more too. Thanks for the thread TAO.
