Pleasantly surprised by the adoptive parent community…

I’m giving a shout-out to all in the adoptive parents community who immediately understood, and joined in the uproar, when the two sets of adoptive parents thought it would be grand to broadcast on National TV  – the first in-person meeting of young identical twins who’d apparently been separated around the age of 15 months, and adopted to separate homes in the US from China.

This gave me hope.

I didn’t see many in the adoption community who didn’t understand that this reunion between young separated twins was something that should have been private, and not a ratings bonanza for GM America.

This is good.

I saw many people not part of adoption tell GM America they were wrong for having any part of this.

I’m not opposed to news stories that speak about the path that brought the girls together.  I’m not opposed to the public reading about things that shouldn’t have happened in adoption and learning more.  I’m opposed to putting two children on display during a reunion, that at it’s very core, is incredibly emotional and private.

Both sets of adoptive parents were wrong.

Good Morning America has this story pinned on their Facebook page. Still milking it for clicks and views.  Views of highly emotional crying 10-year-old children who were done so wrong, lost so much already.  The video has been viewed more than 3.7 million times.  There are more than 16,000 comments made by viewers.

This was wrong.  This is wrong.  This should have been a private moment for just the two girls with their parents watching from afar.
