Hat tip to Adoption News and Events FB page where I found this story…

Reuniting a broken family: Children given away ‘like puppies’

My wish for the new year is that they will find, and reunite with their missing siblings…I just can’t imagine living with the pain they have had all these years…

I started looking on Ancestry and found the “parents” 1940 census in MA with his parents. Billie Patricia is actually Betty Patricia – so probably Elizabeth Patricia – at the time of the census (Apr ’40) she was 2 months old. It’s easy to find the “parents” after that, but pretty hard to track the lost ones when you don’t have a last name. I hope they do before it’s too late.

I hope they’ve considered entering themselves into the various DNA databases…. I hope they find them.

I agree that this was a terrible story to read. There was something up with those parents, however. Although adoption played no small role in the wretched growing up years of those children, the original parents seemed so immune to their suffering, it was like adoption was almost incidental to the story. (Of course, it wasn’t to those who lived it.) Did you notice how well-groomed the parents looked? The children suffered from terrible hunger and neglect but the parents looked well-turned out, even kind of slick. They disgusted me. Sometimes you get situations where the parents only have eyes for each other. I read a piece by some hotshot writer once called, “Why I love my Husband More Than My Kids.” It too disgusted me. These people went on to have a 20-year life with each other, free of what can only be described as “seven burdens.” They never should have had one child. It’s why I cringe when people exclaim that, de facto, because you created a child, you are automatically the best person to raise him or her. It’s true in most cases but not in all. These children, adults now, will never fully recover from this abandonment made all the worse, for most of them, by a shitty adoption. It’s hard to say what could have fixed this situation. I believe they have found the only respite possible by finding each other.

Happy New Year to you and yours, Tao.
