Letter from the President of Ethica

Letter from the President: Not a time to rejoice.

Dear friends,

A few days ago, in an unprecedented ruling, a judge in Guatemala ordered an adoption rescinded and a child returned from her American adoptive family to her biological family in Guatemala because her adoption was found to be fraudulent.

This is a tough blow for any of us paying attention with kids adopted from Guatemala. It’s got us talking in our house – even though we *think* we know our kids’ story. This sure makes us go back and reexamine everything we’ve been told. “Such a hard situation” doesn’t begin to describe it. No matter what happens, everybody already has lost. There’s no undoing it.

    American Mamacita,

I cannot even begin to imagine what it would be like. I do know what it is like to know other than the fact that society et al required me to be surrendered – everything else was above board – that means a whole lot…

What I do know is that the adoption industry has to be changed. You cannot have the so called ‘Watch Dogs” for the industry who also actively lobby the government paid for by the adoption agencies. Fox guarding the hen-house scenario. And in order for something to change ALL the adoptive parents need to collectively join forces and take a stand…

Adoptees really have no voice to those who can change things but I can tell you it breaks my heart to hear of new adoptees who do not have clean stories..

Tell me your thoughts, but please be nice...
