Isn’t there always a positive and negative to everything in life? If you did not know both sides could you appreciate either side? If you had never felt hate would you know love? If you have never experienced a joyful moment would you recognise sorrow? Good and bad, positive and negative – I do not believe one feeling can exist and be recognised without having felt the other.
Take for example a comment told to many adoptees either stated in the positive or negative: You must have had a good experience/You must have had a bad experience. If you had not experienced the highs and the lows of the experience then would you recognise either for what it is?
Aren’t all life experiences a combination of both sides?
June 2013: The intent of this blog is not to exclude anyone in adoption, rather open conversations where people from all segments in adoption can talk together. Wide-sweeping statements that are derogatory against an entire segment in adoption is clearly not appropriate, using inflammatory terms against any segment will also shut down the conversation.
