Art Linkletter – July 17, 1912 – May 26, 2010
Memories evoked when thinking of his shows are many. Happy times as a family watching and laughing. They were good times.
I never knew he was an adoptee, born Gordon Arthur Kelly who says he later changed his name to Arthur Gordon Linkletter to take his adoptive parents last name.
I never knew he rode the trains as he says a deluxe hobo who worked his way up to passenger trains that were more tricky.
I never knew he was born in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, Canada.
From all accounts he was a good man who loved his family deeply, worked hard his entire life and lived his life to the fullest.
All I knew was he was a funny man who made my entire family laugh.
The video below is almost a half hour but the first part talks about his childhood and life before his career in radio and then tv. What does strike me is that even Mr. Linkletter in one part of the interview seems at one point compelled to point out something to the effect of although I loved them very much…
Love and hatred
Good and evil
Joy and sorrow
Friend and enemy
Peace and war
Beginning and end
